Boasting a temperate climate, magnificent fall foliage, and a variety of festivals and special events, Arkansas is a great place to be in the fall.

Here are some ways to enjoy the season in The Natural State:

Wiederkehr Wine Festival

Now in its 48th year, the mid-October Wiederkehr Wine Festival, which takes place near Altus in the western part of the state, offers a wide range of activities, including a grape stomp, conga line dancing through the wine cellars, sing-along in German and English, contests and door prizes, strolling musicians, horseback rides, pony rides and tram rides, arts and crafts displays and dining at the Weinkeller Restaurant. Wiederkehr Winery produces a variety of German and Swiss-style wines.

Musicfest Fall Festival

Taking place in El Dorado, the Musicfest Fall Festival in early October in downtown features acts like Pat Green, Uncle Kracker, Marty Stuart, and Radney Foster. There’s also a school stage that offers performances by local school groups such as the El Dorado High School Choir and El Dorado High School Orchestra. Food booths offer items like red beans and rice, shrimp-on-a-stick, deep fried candy bars, deep fried pickles, funnel cakes, and Polish sausage.

Harvest Music Festival

Staged in Ozark in mid-October, the Harvest Music Festival features live music performances, daily workshops in yoga and meditation, a 9-hole disc golf course, hiking on the Ozark Highlands Trail and along the Mulberry River, fishing at Mulberry Mountain, float trips and kayaking. Highlights of the Mulberry Mountain complex include a concert area, primitive camping, VIP camping, and unreserved, primitive RV parking.

Foliage Tours

During the fall when fiery-colored leaves of brilliant yellows, reds, oranges and purples dominate Arkansas’ beautiful mountains and valleys, the entire state becomes amazingly photogenic. The peak time for foliage tours in the Ozark Mountain region is mid- to late October. In the Quachitas and Arkansas River Valley, early November is the peak time. By early to mid-November, the Delta and Gulf Coastal Plain are in peak color.

University of Arkansas Football Games

The University of Arkansas Razorbacks play their games in the fall at 72,000-seat Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The Razorbacks play in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference and go up against rivals like the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, and Mississippi State Bulldogs. One of the most popular traditions at the games is to "call the hogs" with the chant of "Woo Pig Sooie," which is composed of three loud calls.
